Amy Cragg Withdraws from 2018 Chicago Marathon

By Adam Kopet

David Monti reports Bank of America Chicago Marathon organizers have announced that Amy Cragg has withdrawn from this year's race.

A week after Jordan Hasay withdrew due to injury, Cragg has also done so, citing a setback early in her marathon buildup that she was unable to sufficiently regain form after.

Cragg and Hasay were the two fastest American marathoners in the 2018 Chicago field. Hasay ran 2:20:57 at the 2017 Chicago Marathon. Cragg ran a personal-best 2:21:42 at the 2018 Tokyo Marathon. Both women earned their bests in third place finishes.

Laura Thweatt and Gwen Jorgensen now lead the American elite contingent in Chicago. Thweatt holds a personal best of 2:25:38 from the 2017 London Marathon, the last marathon she competed in. She set a personal best in the half marathon this summer at the Gold Coast Half Marathon, running 1:10:17.

Jorgensen's only marathon performance to date was the 2016 New York City Marathon, which she ran off of triathlon training following her Olympic gold medal performance in Rio. She ran 2:41:01. Jorgensen retired from triathlon last year and took up full time running last year after the birth of her son. She ran a personal-best 1:10:58 for half marathon earlier this year.
