Gwen Jorgensen To Race Chicago MarathonPublished by
2018 Chicago Marathon to Include Gwen JorgensenBy Adam Kopet Gwen Jorgensen announced Monday on Twitter that she will race Oct. 7 in the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Jorgensen's biggest success came in triathlon as she won the 2016 Olympic triathlon, becoming the first American woman to win gold in the event. However, later that fall, Jorgensen entered the New York City Marathon and finished 14th in 2:41:01. A year later, after the birth of her son, Jorgensen announced she was retiring from triathlon and returning to running. She competed in cross country and track at Wisconsin before taking up triathlon. Her goal was to win Olympic gold in the marathon in 2020. Since that announcement in 2017, Jorgensen has joined the Bowerman Track Club and begun working her way into shape. However, she has not run a marathon since her 2016 debut. That will change when Jorgensen toes the line in Chicago. She already has set personal bests of 15:15.64 for 5,000 meters and 31:55.68 for 10,000 meters. She also finished fourth at the USATF Half Marathon Championships, running 1:10:58. More news |
