Alice Wright Withdraws from the Chicago Marathon with a Stress Fracture

By Adam Kopet

Alice Wright will not be making her marathon debut next month at the Chicago Marathon as originally planned. The British athlete, who trains with the HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite (NAZ Elite), has sustained a metatarsal stress fracture, according to a team Twitter post.

Wright joined the NAZ Elite in 2018 after a successful career at New Mexico, where she finished fifth at the 2015 NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships and finished runner-up in the 10,000 meters at the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships.

She was a four-time All-American in cross country, as well as the 10,000 while competing for the Lobos.

Competing internationally, Wright finished third at the 2016 European Athletics Cross Country Championships and sixth in the 10,000 at the 2018 European Athletics Outdoor Championships. She has a 10,000 personal best of 32:15.73.

Wright has started a transition to the roads this year. She has raced three half marathons this year, with her best coming at the Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Half Marathon, where she ran 1:11:38 for third on the non-record-eligible course.
